Some of the past programs by the BET Foundation, in collaboration with local organizations, include:

  • Sanitary Towels Distribution: Providing hygiene packs to girls in remote areas, enabling them to attend school without shame.
  • Community Health Education: Raising awareness about health, hygiene, and wellness in marginalized communities.
  • Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Awareness and Advocacy: Partnering with local organizations to educate and protect young girls from harmful cultural practices.
  • Support for Families of Children with Disabilities: Offering resources and assistance to families in both Australia and Kenya to improve their quality of life.

Together, we are making strides toward positive change.

Sanitary Towels Distribution: Britney’s Hygiene Pack

BET Foundation Youth Ambassador, Britney Korir, designed a hygiene pack in response to feedback from girls in remote parts of Kenya. While our sanitary towel distribution was helpful, Britney learned that many girls in these areas had no panties or only one, making it difficult to hold the pads in place. As a result, they were still unable to attend school.

In collaboration with the girls from Kuresoi North and the organization running the program, Britney developed the hygiene pack to meet this need. For just $70, you can provide a girl with the essentials to save her from shame and enable her to attend school confidently for a whole year.

What’s included in Britney’s Hygiene Pack:

  • 7 cotton panties
  • 3 cotton sports bras
  • A year’s supply of sanitary pads

Over 4,500 girls have already benefited from this program. Sponsor a girl today by purchasing Britney’s Hygiene Pack and hit the donation button. Your support will go a long way in ensuring no girl has to miss school because of a lack of hygiene essentials.  She deserves it! Donate today

Community Health Education

Community Health Education: Empowering Girls and Women in Villages

At the heart of the BET Foundation’s mission is our Community Health Education initiative, which focuses on educating young girls and women in remote villages on essential hygiene, health, and empowerment practices. This work is crucial in breaking cycles of poverty, improving health outcomes, and fostering self-confidence and independence among girls and women.

In many villages, access to basic health education is limited. Girls often grow up unaware of proper hygiene practices, which can lead to health issues and lower school attendance. By educating young girls on menstrual hygiene and providing them with the necessary resources, we empower them to stay in school, maintain their health, and build a brighter future. With our hygiene packs, which include sanitary towels, panties, and bras, we ensure that no girl has to miss school because of her period.

For women, our health education programs cover vital topics such as maternal health, nutrition, family planning, and disease prevention. We not only provide information but also offer a platform for women to learn about their rights, develop new skills, and engage in economic activities. By equipping them with knowledge and tools, we foster a sense of empowerment, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

The ripple effect of our work in these communities is profound. When girls and women are empowered with health education, they can contribute more effectively to their families, communities, and society at large. This, in turn, helps break the cycle of inequality and opens the door to opportunities that can improve their quality of life for generations to come.

Our Community Health Education programs aim to build healthier, stronger, and more informed communities, creating a lasting impact on the lives of young girls and women in rural Kenya.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Awareness and Advocacy:

Alternative Rites of Passage

Over the past three years, the BET Foundation has successfully conducted Alternative Rites of Passage programs in the Rift Valley, impacting the lives of more than 4,500 girls. This initiative offers a culturally respectful alternative to the harmful practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), empowering girls with knowledge and tools to navigate their futures without undergoing traditional practices that harm their well-being.

Our comprehensive curriculum covers critical topics such as:

  • The Dangers of FGM: Educating girls about the physical, emotional, and psychological consequences of FGM.
  • Early Marriage and Early Pregnancies: Raising awareness about the risks and challenges associated with early marriage and teenage pregnancies, while promoting the importance of education and personal development.
  • Peer Pressure and the Influence of Technology: Helping girls understand the impacts of peer pressure and guiding them to make informed decisions in the digital age.
  • Career Guidance: Providing advice and inspiration to encourage girls to pursue their dreams and recognize their full potential.

FGM has no place in this era, and our Alternative Rites of Passage program stands as a testament to the power of education and support in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. By equipping girls with the knowledge, confidence, and resources they need, we are helping them realize their potential and break free from the constraints of outdated practices. Let’s come together to support these young girls on their journey to becoming the strong, empowered women they are destined to be.

Support for Families of Children with Disabilities

Over the past three years, the BET Foundation has partnered with organizations in Kitui, Kenya, and the slums of Nairobi to support families of children with disabilities. These partnerships have enabled us to provide essential services, including monthly medication, diapers, and meals, making a life-changing difference for these families. Every Christmas, we also deliver gift hampers, ensuring that each family receives a meal and a gift, bringing hope and joy during the festive season.

Our support programs have had a profound impact, improving the health and well-being of children with disabilities while easing the financial and emotional burdens on their families. However, to continue this vital work, we need your support.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Diaper Program Monthly: $20
  • Medication Monthly: $20
  • Christmas Hamper for a Family of Four: $80 (Once a year)

Your donation, no matter the size, will go a long way in ensuring that these children and their families receive the care, supplies, and support they need. Together, we can continue making a lasting impact in their lives. Please donate to any of these programs and help us bring hope and dignity to families in need.
